De Nieuwe Lichting StuBru

De Nieuwe Lichting is a contest for upcoming musical talent, which is organised every year by the radio station Studio Brussel. The three winners receive a custom designed trophy.

The 2021 edition of the trophy I designed was made in Fusion360 and printed on my Prusa I3 MK3S+ 3D printer with gold coloured filament. The light bulb is a 12V E27 bulb which is connected to three AAA batteries with a DC-DC step-up converter.

In order to mimize the need for support structures, the print was cut in half diagonally. This also solved the problem to access the battery compartment. There are two hidden magnets in each half to hold everything together.

Total printing time for all three trophies was about 75 hours.

The 2020 edition of the trophy was lasercut out of MDF and Plexi with a Trotec Speedy 300. The Plexi engraved lightbulb is lit from the bottom with a few LEDs powered by three AAA batteries. The foot is held in place with two hidden magnets.
